Employment Facilitator

COSTI REQUIRES AN EMPLOYMENT FACIITATOR FOR ITS REFUGEE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM IN THE GREATER TORONTO AREA

Duties:

  • Conducts intake, assessment and employment guidance/counselling to program participants.
  • Provides pre-employment and life skills workshops and coaching to participants.
  • Provides guidance and refers participants to other services based on their individual goals and needs.
  • Liaises with other COSTI and external programs/ services in the community that assist and support refugees and vulnerable newcomers in accessing the employment services and supports they require.
  • Prepares schedules and delivers off- site workshops/presentations to vulnerable newcomers and refugees as required. Across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
  • Assists with curriculum development, lesson plans and facilitates pre-employment and life skills group workshops including: Personality Dimensions, Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, Time Management, Adapting to Change, Banking, Budgeting and Credit Management, Nutrition and Fitness, Stress Management, Personal Health & Self-Image Management, Self-Esteem, Employment Standard Act, Communication Skills etc.
  • Delivers group workshops in labour market information, job search strategies, career planning, employer and Canadian workplace expectations, employment services and supports available in their communities.
  • Assists participants with the development of a personalized return to work plans, exploration of careers and goal setting for career development.
  • Coaches and assists participants in developing effective job search strategies.
  • Assists in obtaining employment placement/volunteer opportunities for clients.
  • Assists in developing and organizing of Job fairs specific to the employment interests/ needs of clients
  • Refers and connects job ready participants with local Employment Ontario/Employment Services.
  • Ensures that the participants access needed wrap around supports such as computer training, mentoring, language training, mental health counselling etc.
  • Uses COSTI employer contacts and job fairs to support participants’ employment.
  • Provides monitoring and follow-up services on all clients participating in the program.
  • Assists in all aspects of job search to ensure employment and education/training goals achieved.
  • Compiles statistical reports monthly, quarterly and yearly as contracted.
  • Conducts outreach activities and promotes the program to other centres and community partners
  • Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary studies in Social Sciences or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of pre-employment workshop facilitation, curriculum development and counselling experience.
  • Demonstrated work experience in developing curriculum and facilitating life skills workshops on any 6 of the following topics: Personality Dimensions, Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, Time Management, Adapting to Change, Banking, Budgeting and Credit Management, Nutrition and Fitness, Stress Management, Personal Health & Hygiene Management, and Self-Esteem.
  • Must have work experience with people facing additional barriers including: lack of Canadian work experience, Mental Health/ Disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to refugee/claimant and vulnerable newcomer issues.
  • Knowledge of employment support programs, job creation programs, education and training programs.
  • Proficiency in using the Internet, Email and Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment.
  • Must have verbal and written fluency in English: the ability to speak any other language an asset.
  • Life skills Training Coach certificate a definite asset.
  • Must have a car as frequent travel is required within the GTA
  • Ability to perform various duties as needed.

    Starting Salary Range:

    $24.98 to $26.89 per hour

    Notes:

    **Hours of work shall be scheduled in accordance with Article 12.01and shall consist of five (5) seven (7) hour days, Monday to Friday.
    Priority consideration will be given to those on Notice of Recall. Subject to the response of those on Notice of Recall, this position may be open to Union members on secondment basis.
