Relief Worker

COSTI REQUIRES RELIEF WORKERS FOR ITS SHELTER SERVICES

Duties:

  • Supports the delivery of programs/orientation and services to residents.
  • Provision of interpretation/translation services as required.
  • Responsible for the admission, discharge and profile creation on data base for new clients.
  • Responsible to ensure welcome packages, welcome files and admission files are ready and prepared on a regular basis.
  • Responsible sorting and distributing mail including contacting clients.
  • Supports the smooth operation of the Centre, which includes responding to emergency situations.
  • Supports the general office duties such as answering telephones and responding to client issues.

    Qualifications:

  • Community college diploma in community work/human services or equivalent.
  • Experience working with newcomers and refugees.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Verbal and written English is required. Preference will be given to those who speak any of the following languages: Arabic, Dari/Farsi, Somali, Amharic, Tigrigna, Spanish and Hungarian.
  • Previous experience with interpretation/translation considered an asset.
  • Sensitive to the needs and issues facing newcomers.

    Duration of Position:

    		 April 27, 2020 to April 27, 2021

    Starting Salary Range:

    		 $14.64 per hour

    Notes:
    Shelter Services provide short-term accommodation and support services for vulnerable populations including Refugee Claimants.

    This is a non-Union contract position scheduled to work variable hours on need basis to cover Morning or Evening shifts.

    Priority consideration will be given to those on Notice of Recall.
