COSTI REQUIRES A CRISES WORKER FOR ITS SHELTER SERVICES

Duties:

  • Work with individuals who have complex issues and challenges including mental health, addictions and homelessness.
  • Provides crisis intervention to clients experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis.
  • Provides Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral care during crises.
  • Completes incident reports and follows shelter policies on action plan.
  • Communicates with general counsellor and mental health counsellor on observations.
  • Assess risk for client in crises, to other clients and staff in the shelter.
  • Problem solving and mediation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Comfortable working alone and in potentially high-risk situations.
  • Complete safety planning with clients in crises when needed.
  • Ensure clients follow shelter rules.
  • Support other staff on shift in daily shelter operations.
  • Documents services and activities in COSTI’s data base system and SMIS (Shelter Management Information System) and prepares necessary reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work and at least 1-year experience providing crisis intervention services to the homeless population.
  • Fluency in English is a must. Fluency in another language is an asset.
  • Sensitive to and aware of the social problems facing the homeless population.
  • Must have valid first aid/ CPR certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Naloxone training certificate is required.
  • Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within past 6 months.
  • Flexibility to work morning or evening hours.

Duration of Position:

November 16, 2020 to April 30, 2021 (Pending confirmation of funding)

Starting Salary Range:

$28.77 to $ 30.96 per hour

Shelter Services provide short-term accommodation and support services for vulnerable populations experiencing homelessness including but not limited to families, refugees, women fleeing domestic violence and singles

This is a non-union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week.

This position is required to work in a stressful environment often dealing with clients in crisis situations. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure while managing multiple concurrent duties, including managing emergency situations is an expectation of this job.
