COSTI REQUIRES OVERNIGHT SUPPORT PERSON FOR ITS SHELTER SERVICES

This is full-time non-union contract position scheduled to work 35 hours per week.(7-hour shifts from 11:00pm to 7:00am form Monday to Friday)

Duties:

  • Ensures house rules are observed.
  • De-escalates non-violent crisis situations e.g. client altercation, family conflicts.
  • Provides emergency intervention in case of client illness and calls paramedics if required.
  • Communicates in a timely and professional manner with the facility management regarding any client concerns.
  • Acts as a contact person for hotel staff.
  • Occasionally responsible for admitting new arrivals.
  • Reports to the Centre Manager and communicates to counsellors any issues requiring follow-up.
  • Work with overnight security to patrol and conduct room checks when needed.
  • Respond to emergencies with clients.
  • Conduct bed check when needed.
  • Document any incidences and services provided overnight on COSTI and SMIS database.
  • Provide daily report to supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Community college diploma in community work/human services or equivalent
  • Previous experience in conflict management, dispute resolution and de-escalation
  • Must have experience working in a homeless shelter
  • Understanding of issues facing population experiencing homelessness
  • Possession of a valid First Aid/CPR training certificate is required.
  • Possession of a valid Naloxone training certificate is required.
  • Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check. The VSS must have been completed within past 6 months.

Duration of Position:

November 9, 2020 to April 30, 2021 (Pending confirmation of funding)

Starting Salary Range:

$19.99 to $21.52 per hour

Shelter Services provide short-term accommodation and support services for vulnerable populations experiencing homelessness including but not limited to families, refugees, women fleeing domestic violence and singles
