The Director of Education provides leadership, management and supervision in the development and delivery of all education services and programs throughout the agency, including English language training programs. Monitors and improves the quality of education services/programs. Ensures the sound management of education centres/programs. Is a member of the leadership team reporting to the Executive Director and works closely with the team to drive the overall Mission of COSTI. This is a fulltime non-union position scheduled to work 35 hours per week.

COSTI REQUIRES A DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION FOR ITS EDUCATION SERVICES

Duties:

  • Develops, articulates and drives forward a shared mission and vision for the successful integration of newcomers.  Creates and communicates strategic and operational goals and forms a climate that encourages innovation and calculated risks. 
  • The Director of Education Services must lead, not just run the department.  Engenders trust, shares information, and be an expert listener in order to effectively diagnose how to get the organization to perform at full potential.
  • Encourages and empowers management and staff at all levels. Develops systems and processes for evaluating outcomes and develops standards for education programs
  • Effectively stewards resources to align them with priorities, creates processes that are inclusive; and delegates authority at appropriate levels. 
  • Identifies educational needs of clients and provides leadership in the development of services, programs, curricula and proposals. Coordinates, evaluates and collaborates in the enrichment of current programs and services. 
  • Coordinates initiatives with other Directors to identify areas of potential services/program collaboration.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and develops staff to meet the Education Services’ goals and objectives.  Identifies staffing requirements to meet program goals.
  • Develops and coordinates proposal development and initiates funding opportunities with government partners.
  • Develops and manages strong relationships between COSTI and other stakeholders such as funders and community groups
  • Recommends the development of new policies and guidelines and revisions to existing policies.
  • Explores and establishes social enterprise initiatives for service and funding diversification.
  • Ensures that sufficient revenues are raised to cover program expenses.  Oversees current budget of $8.5 million.
  • Development of divisional budgets and ensures expenses are within established limits. Prepares statistical and service reports.

Performs other duties as required: Public relations functions; attends conferences; acts as a resource to COSTI Board and other committees in the organization.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent (e.g., BSW, MSW, B.Ed., M.Ed or degree in Immigrant Services) and a minimum of four years’ experience working in a senior role within a Social Service environment.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles and experience in adult education services.
  • A demonstrated track record of success and progressively responsible people leadership roles in a large complex, diverse environment that is related to community services is essential.
  • Experience in developing and administering human service programs.  Has a deep understanding of the human service sector.
  • Skilled in the development and management of budgets of $2 million or higher.
  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively with community organizations and government.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to be effective at both leading and participating in a collaborative team setting. 
  • Strong knowledge of the immigrant service sector is ideal.
  • Management experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • Experience in writing successful funding proposals is an asset.
  • Must be fully vaccinated or be exempt from vaccination on human rights grounds. COSTI reserves the right to require information establishing the validity of the exemption

Starting Salary Range:

$ 86,924 to $ 94,514, per annum + benefits
