COSTI HOSTS CONFERENCE ON GAMBLING, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY INTERVENTION: BRAIN AND MIND
The conference was hosted and sponsored by COSTI Immigrant Services in partnership with the Ontario Resource Committee on Gambling, Ethnicity, and Culture. Attendees included; mainstream community service providers, problem gambling counsellors, addiction counsellors, settlement workers, health officials, researchers, credit counsellors, bankruptcy trustees, students and all social service providers interested in the issue of problem gambling and how it affects ethno-cultural communities.
In planning for this year’s conference, organizers felt that understanding and addressing the role of the brain and gaining insight on the decision making process of a gambler, would be of interest to attendee. Dr. Martin Zack, Neuroscience Research Department, Centre for Addictions and Mental Health, and the Departments of Pharmacology and Public Health Sciences, University of Toronto, presented the keynote address titled "Does Your Brain Change When You Gamble?"
