Jason’s Story
Accelerating settlement and integration through language and skills training
When Jason arrived in Canada from Shanghai, China in March 2022, he knew that learning English was a key component for his successful integration into his new Canadian life. To achieve this, Jason joined COSTI’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program to develop English language skills as part of his settlement journey. Jason started his studies in September 2022, and has made significant progress, he has now attained the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) level 2-3.
“When I joined school last year, my listening, speaking, reading, and writing score was 1, 1, 4, 1. I believe that with the help of the teachers and the school, I can graduate from LINC Level 4 in three years, and then successfully obtain Canadian citizenship.”

By learning alongside fellow students who shared his enthusiasm for English, Jason thrived in a secure and interactive classroom environment. This setting empowered him and his classmates to improve their listening and speaking abilities with confidence. Through personalized language exercises and tailored assistance matching his proficiency level, Jason has gained the self-confidence to develop and apply his English language skills.
