ESL for Temporary Residents

COSTI offers specialized English programs for temporary residents living in Ontario with a valid Visitor Visa, Work Permit, or Study Permit. 

Our programs help learners build the English language skills needed for everyday life, workplace success, or academic achievement. Through practical, real-world instruction, learners develop confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while improving their communication skills for life in Canada. 

Three specialized English programs are available: 

Everyday English for Life in Ontario 

Available for beginner to lower intermediate English learners. 

Practical English for shopping, banking, housing, healthcare, transportation, community services, travel, social interactions, education, employment, Canadian culture, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. 

English for Workplace Success 

Available for lower intermediate to advanced English learners. 

Workplace English for job search and interview preparation, workplace communication, customer service, communication with supervisors and coworkers, workplace vocabulary, email communication, workplace rights and health and safety, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Participants are also connected with Employment Ontario service providers for additional employment support. 

English for Academic Success 

Available for intermediate to advanced English learners on a student visa. 

Academic English focusing on academic reading and writing, note-taking, presentations, classroom discussions, study skills, academic vocabulary, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and the development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

We’ll arrange a language assessment to determine your English level and recommend the right program. We also accept results from CELPIP, IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, the Duolingo English Test, CAEL and CLB-OSA completed within the past 12 months. Simply provide us with a copy.  

Schedule

• Courses are available part-time online, with daytime and evening options
• Six-week sessions are offered with continuous intake throughout the year

Who is eligible?

Individuals 18 years and above living in Ontario with a valid Visitor Visa, Work Permit, or Study Permit are eligible for these programs. Each six-week course costs $230.
