Eviction Prevention

COSTI helps low-income individuals and families in North York stay in their homes and avoid eviction. If you are at risk of losing your housing because of unpaid rent or need help paying first and last month’s rent, we can assist you.

Those who qualify may receive financial support through programs such as the Rent Bank Program, the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP), or the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP). Our goal is to prevent housing loss and make sure you have the help you need to remain safe and secure in your home.

Program highlights

  • Access to information on tenants’ rights and responsibilities
  • Intake for the Rent Bank program interest-free-loans to eligible households for rental arrears or for first and last month rental deposits
  • Referrals and advocacy to access Housing Stabilization Fund 
  • Financial Literacy sessions offered individually and in groups
  • Referrals to Community Legal Clinics and other resources

Who is eligible?

Services are available to anyone living in North York who does not have adequate housing, is at risk of becoming homeless, or faces cultural, language, or financial barriers to finding a suitable home.
