EmpowerHER HORIZONS PROGRAM
This is a part-time non-union, contract position scheduled to work 5 hours per week (in person) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Duties:
- Facilitate engaging in-person and virtual life skills and career planning workshops designed to support newcomer and marginalized women in the GTA. Topics include, but are not limited to, Personality Dimensions, career exploration, self-awareness, self-esteem, goal setting, time management, team building, problem-solving, conflict resolution, financial literacy, and decision-making.
- Teach life skills by helping participants develop problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and decision-making abilities.
- Support independence by providing guidance on managing daily tasks, such as budgeting for groceries, financial management, and time management.
- Help clients build skills to manage anxiety, build self-esteem, and develop social and interpersonal skills for greater confidence and resilience.
- Support participants in pursuing future growth opportunities, such as employment, volunteering, or post-secondary education.
- Assess participant needs and conduct vocational testing, career exploration, and individual counselling to help participants identify strengths, interests, and employment opportunities.
- Provide career support services, including resume writing, interview coaching, and guidance on navigating the Canadian workplace.
- Support wellness by helping participants make healthy lifestyle choices and access mental health resources.
- Create personalized, career-focused action plans to support participants' professional and personal development.
- Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, encouraging participants to share experiences, build connections, and gain confidence.
- Support hybrid program delivery, ensuring effective facilitation of both online and in-person sessions while maximizing participant engagement.
- Collaborate with guest speakers and industry professionals to enhance workshop content and provide additional learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate participant records and assist the Project Coordinator with preparing statistical and narrative reports on program engagement and outcomes.

Qualifications:
- Social Services Worker diploma, Community Development, Adult Education, or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 years of recent experience working with newcomers and/or marginalized women.
- Minimum 1 year of facilitation experience focused on life skills and career planning.
- Experience developing and delivering career planning and life skills workshops, covering topics such as time management, financial literacy, goal setting, conflict resolution, and stress management.
- Experience facilitating in-person and online information sessions and workshops
- Life Skills Coach Certificate training an asset.
- Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) an asset.
- Personality Dimensions Certification an asset.
- Mental Health First Aid an asset.
- Strong understanding of local community issues, priorities, and challenges facing newcomers to Canada and marginalized women in the GTA.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and adapt to diverse client needs.
- Sensitivity to diverse populations, including new immigrants, refugees, LGBTQ individuals, and persons with disabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, internet, and other Windows-based software.
- Familiarity with virtual meeting tools such as Microsoft Teams and hybrid teaching technology like the OWL camera.
- Experience using OneDrive and SharePoint.
- Ability to communicate in languages other than English is an asset.
- Must be able to work evening hours.
- Must be able to work in person.
- Must be fully vaccinated or provide a valid exemption on human rights grounds (COSTI reserves the right to verify exemption validity).
