Public Education and Capacity Building
COSTI has a mandate to inform public policy makers and the community at large about issues affecting immigrants and how they can best be addressed. At COSTI, we believe that excellence in service is best achieved by educating and working collaboratively with clients, the ethno-specific community, politicians and policy makers, educational institutions, media, and the community at large, so that collectively, the needs of individuals and their families are met through improved service delivery.
COSTI undertakes and participates in a number of public education initiatives: presentations; hosting international dignitaries interested in understanding settlement and employment services to newcomers; and public awareness and training projects.
COSTI is presently developing a Client Rights Policy for the settlement sector that will be standardized agency-wide for clients accessing COSTI services on-site or off-site, offered by COSTI staff or by partners in service delivery on behalf of COSTI. The long-term objective is to work towards the promotion of Clients' Rights and a Standard of Professional Conduct in the settlement sector at large.
