EmpowerHER Horizons is a program designed specifically to support newcomer and marginalized women living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to overcome barriers and achieve personal and career goals. The program combines flexible sessions with supportive in-person meetings, creating a safe and welcoming space to build confidence, learn new skills, and prepare for meaningful employment.

This program is more than just training, it’s a community. You’ll gain practical skills, develop a stronger sense of self, and build connections that last a lifetime. With expert guidance, access to local resources, and personalized support, you’ll feel empowered to overcome challenges and create a brighter future.

The program is delivered in a hybrid format, with options for both online and in-person participation to meet your needs.

Services Available

What You’ll Experience:

  • Communication & Life Skills: Build confidence with workshops on effective communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
  • Career Support: Get hands-on training for resume writing, interview preparation, and navigating the Canadian workplace. 
  • Wellness Resources: Learn stress management strategies and access tools to support mental health and well-being.
  • Parenting Guidance: Discover practical approaches to parenting and family life in Canada. 
  • Financial Know-How: Develop skills in budgeting, saving, and planning for financial stability.
  • Digital Literacy: Learn how to find reliable information online, explore useful websites, and protect your personal information through essential cybersecurity practices  

These components are delivered through workshops, guest speaker sessions, and one-on-one consultations, providing participants with a holistic approach to personal and professional development.

Who is Eligible

Eligibility requirements:

  1. Canadian citizen, naturalized Canadian citizen, permanent resident, convention refugee or refugee claimant
  2. Residents of Greater Toronto Area
  3. Individuals over 18 years of age

Program Intake

The class start dates for the EmpowerHER Horizons program are as follows:  

  1. April 22, 2025 to June 12, 2025
  2. June 24, 2025 to August 14, 2025
  3. August 26, 2025 to October 16, 2025
  4. October 28, 2025 to December 18, 2025
  5. January 13, 2026 to March 5, 2026  

Times

In-person and online participation is available. Classes take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., over an 8-week period.
